I often use guided meditations on YouTube. The speaker usually says to inhale the good stuff — love, fresh air, calm, smoke from your neighbor’s deck party — but then they say to exhale the bad stuff — stress, toxins, anxiety, smoke from your neighbor’s deck party. It’s a good idea in theory, but then we concentrate on the bad stuff as we’re exhaling, instead of sending out love and peace to surround ourselves and others with it. Finally, one yoga instructor said, “Inhale, lots of love in. And exhale, lots of love out.” It makes so much sense.
